Collection consists of letters by Foster, including: 1859 Feb. 3, St Johns Wook, to Worthington - regarding lending a Crabbe sketch and encouraging his wood carving; 1885 July 3, Surrey, to T. M. Richardson - describing a highland scene and asking where they should go in Scotland to find such a scene, with a pen and ink sketch of mountains and a stream; n.d. to a Mr. Dudley requesting the name of a street they painted together with illustrations showing the location. Plus three pencil sketches and an Elliot and Fry photograph of Foster, signed.

Myles Birket Foster was a popular Victorian-era illustrator and watercolor painter, noted for his technical proficiency and rustic scenes. First apprenticed to a wood engraver, he later worked as an illustrator for books and periodicals before successfully publishing books of his own illustrations.
